Using eBooks from Boreham Library: Finding eBooks

how to find, use and download eBooks from the Boreham Library

Tip on Free eBooks

Free

You can also search the Library catalog for online sources for free eBooks.  Just type in "free ebooks" to search.

Another resource is from Gizmo's Freeware - an index of ebooks (and audiobooks!) by genre.

Using the Catalog

The Library catalog allows you to search for eBooks by KeywordAuthorTitle, or Subject.

Select by Material Type

If you want to limit your search to only eBooks, then you can use the Material Type option to select by eBook Nonfiction or eBook Fiction.

Material Type selection

Search Results

The results of your search will show only eBooks, if you limited the Material Type to that -- otherwise, it shows all the records in the catalog.

Notice that the first item shows as an eBook.  See the icon for eBook on the right.

Click on the title for the eBook or click on Online resource to go directly to the eBook page, if you are sure this is the item you want.

eBook record

In the catalog record for the specific eBook, find the box with the link, which may look something like:

An electronic book accessible online via ebscohost; click to view

or

Accessible online or DOWNLOADABLE as an Adobe Digital Edition; click to view

and click on that link to go to the web page for the eBook.

If it is downloadable, it will give you that option in the left column.

IMPORTANT NOTE: you may need to set up your own account with EBSCOhost or another vendor the first time you use it, using a login and password.  After that, use the same login and password on that vendor for downloading.  This only applies to downloadable ebook vendors and they are not connected to the Boreham Library patron records (we have no way to recover your login), so remember your logon.
